World Draughts Federation


 



Checkers is played on a board of 64 squares, light and dark.

The long diagonal (dark), must always be to the left of each player.

The goal is to immobilize or capture all opponent's pieces.




The game is played between two partners, with 12 white pieces each side. The starting game is up to those who are always with the white pieces.

The game played on a board of 100 squares is Draughts and it has 20 pieces each side - International Checkers.

The eighth line in 64 squares and the tenth line in 100 squares board are king square.





 


 



The piece goes only forward diagonally one square at a time. When the piece reaches the last row of the board (king square) and stop on this square, it is promoted to the king, who is identified by superimposing one piece with a piece of the same color.



The king has complex movements.

It walks back and forth in diagonal how many squaresyou want.

The king can not capture a piece of the same color.

The capture is mandatory.

Two or more pieces together on the same diagonal can not be captured.






The piece captures the king and the king captures the piece.

They have the same value to capture or be captured.


 


 




The piece and the king can capture both forward and backward, one or more pieces.

The king in the last movement of capture can stop at any square free diagonal that is capturing. The king is not required to stop at the next square after the last captured piece.

If in the same movement to present more of a chance of capturing pieces is required to play which captures the largest number of pieces.

If the piece during the capture of several opponent pieces, just pass by any king square, without stopping there, this piece will not be promoted as a king.




During the capture is allowed to pass more than once for the same empty square

(Cross Square).

It is not allowed to capture 2 times the same piece.


 


 



During the capture is not allowed to capture the same piece more than once and captured pieces can not be removed from the board before completing the movement of the capture.

Draw

After 20 successive moves of kings of each player without capture or move of piece, the match is declared a draw.


End games:

2 kings against 2 kings;

2 kings against one;

2 kings against a king and a piece;

1 king against 1 king a 1 king against 1 king and 1 piece are declared draw after 5 moves for each player.
